In Turkey, over 1,400 people have been arrested since Wednesday, including six journalists and an AFP photographer, following protests triggered by the arrest of Istanbul's mayor, Ekrem Imamoglu. Authorities have extended protest bans in Ankara and Izmir, similar to the one already in place in Istanbul. The Council of Europe has criticized the "disproportionate use of force" during the demonstrations.
